Academic Progress
Academic progress standards are as follows:
- All students enrolled in credit bearing courses at Great Falls College MSU are required to maintain a 2.0 cumulative grade point average (CGPA). Students with less than a 2.0 CGPA at the end of any academic term will be notified by the Registrar that they have been placed on academic warning for the following academic term. If, at the end of a subsequent term, they meet the required 2.0 CGPA, they are removed from academic warning. Academic warning serves to notify students that the quality of their work is below an acceptable level and that the continuation of unsatisfactory work during their next semester of enrollment will result in academic suspension.
- All students enrolled in credit bearing courses who receive less than a 2.0 GPA and have a CGPA below a 2.0 for the second consecutive academic term will be suspended from the College. Students on academic warning who earn at least a 2.0 grade average for the semester without raising their cumulative grade point average to the required minimum 2.0 will remain on academic warning.
- Following suspension, students will not be considered for reinstatement until at least one semester (excluding summer) has passed. Re-admission must be initiated through the Admissions Office by completing the Application for Admissions and the Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeal Form. If the appeal for re-admission is approved, students will be re-admitted on academic warning status, and will be re-enrolled under the current catalog requirements for graduation.
- Transfer applicants may be admitted on academic warning based upon their academic standing at previous institutions.
- Re-admitted applicants may be admitted on academic warning based upon their cumulative grade point average (CGPA) and/or academic standing when last in attendance.
- Students who have been placed on academic warning or suspension may appeal in writing to the Registrar for a review of their circumstances.
