Introduction to Healthcare Careers

This program gives students an introductory look into the wide range of careers in healthcare and helps them discover which path may be right for them. Students learn the foundations of health science, explore different medical and allied health professions, and identify what prerequisites they need for future training programs. Throughout the program, students complete some of these required health science profession classes and build essential skills in professionalism and communication. The program concludes with a capstone experience where students shadow professionals in their chosen field to gain real-world- insight and decide whether they want to pursue that career after completing the program.
Graduates are prepared to:
- Outline the roles, responsibilities, and educational pathways of diverse healthcare professions to make informed decisions about career options.
- Describe the role of professionalism in healthcare careers, including proper dress codes, required PPE, and adapting personal appearance to the needs of the audience and workplace.
- Create a plan to achieve healthcare career goals.
